Pirate Treasure- April 2014

This is a great event that everyone can participate in. Basic concept is you get keys for attacking players and wilds.  There are 3 ranks of keys. Gold best, Silver middle and Copper provides the smallest rewards.  You are able to open 30 chests a day and this is usually a two day event. Just make sure to use at least 30 keys before the world clock reads 00:00. The easiest way to get keys is to farm a lvl 1 wild. I have gotten 2 silver keys out of 60 keys total doing this but never a gold key. I believe that the harder the attack the higher the chance of a gold key. So while this event is running would be a great time for prestige battles with a friend.

You are able to upgrade keys, you can turn 3 copper keys into a silver key and 3 silver keys into a gold key. The first time for each is free after that it is 1gc for creating a silver key and 3gc for creating a gold key.

here is a sampling of what I have gotten from each chest. You generally get 3 items. And as far as I can tell the gold is no better than the copper...

    Upgrading for Beginners

    Upgrading

This method is best used to get your city leveled up with the rewards given for completing upgrades. Eventually this will become impractical and you will focus your upgrades on specific buildings. If you are a just starting I have found that this is the best method of getting your city to level 6 or so within a day and the best part is that the resources used to perform the upgrades are from the rewards you receive for upgrading in this cycle.

SIDE NOTE: I suggest performing the upgrades on the outer ring then upgrading your City Hall and Warehouse to level 3 or 4 then resuming the cycle. If you do not upgrade your City Hall and Warehouse you will quickly run out of population as the City Hall will not produce enough population to support this method without being several levels ahead of the other buildings.

Follow These Steps For An Easy Level 5 City

1.) Start with the outer ring and upgrade Sawmill 1 - Warehouse clockwise as shown in the chart.

2.) Once you have completed the outer cycle start working on the inner circle upgrades clockwise   (i.e. complete only Sawmill upgrade 2, 3, 4 do not upgrade Sawmill 1.

3.) You can collect your reward as it appears in the "Mission" window (you will see a green circle indicating a reward is available for collection).

    4.) Repeat the cycle.

The Barracks for Beginners Part II of II

Take me to part I of this tutorial

Alternatively if you would like to download the Microsoft Word document of this tutorial you can do so HERE at my personal AoWE website.

    Troop Types: Archer

Archers are overlooked most of the time. They are the cheapest to build, have a high attack rating but they have a terrible defense rating. Most likely you will use Archers as your sacrificial's, if you do not know what sacrificial's are enter it into the search box and read on!

Strong Army for Few Resources (Has Been Phased Out)
Now here is where it gets tricky regarding Archers. Not many know this even though it is in plain sight. Archers are an untapped resource in most cases because when you get into troop enhancements, which more detail can be found below, Archers receive the highest increase in attack. If you get your Archers to level 10 enhancement, equip a few gems and items and use a good formation where your Archers are behind Infantry you can have a hard hitting army for a bargain! The downside is that if you get hit by any troop type you will suffer great losses of troops, but then again they are very cheap to train. You've been informed now it's up to you, but I seriously suggest giving them a shot before you cast them to the side for Infantry and Catapult.

    Troop Types: Catapult

Finally we get to the most overused troop type on the game, unlike Infantry they aren't as cheap to build and frankly they are as expensive as Cavalry. They pack one mean ass punch right from the get go and will likely be your first enhancement to level 10.

Last Two Sentences (Cost Difference Has Been Phased out on V1/V2 ONLY)
Catapults are mean, they are nasty, and frankly if you have an enemy player sending an entire army of Catapults at you it's going to hurt if you decide to Defend. They are NOT invincible however and the downside is that they have a low Defense and Life rating. The upside is that they have the highest Attack rating when you start the game. These will be your largest expense I can say with certainty when it comes to building your Army. The best way to use your Catapults is to hide them behind your Infantry since your Infantry have the highest defense rating it only makes sense right? We will get more in depth with formations in other tutorials so keep in mind you do NOT want these guys taking a hit if at all possible. They are expensive and if you decide to send your entire army somewhere and you lose, losing the Catapults alone is enough to make you cry.

    Enhance Attribute

Enhancing troops is going to be your goal after you decide it's time to build your Army. Without enhancing your troops frankly you stand no chance against an enemy with enhanced troops. By enhancing them you increase all of their ratings dramatically. Once your troops have been enhanced to level 10 they receive a "Special Attack". This is more of a special effect than it is a special attack because the only true change other than the increase in statistics similar to the previous enhancements. You will commonly hear these level 10 enhanced soldiers referred to as "Swirlies" and this is attributed to the special effect they receive at level 10. Now, what do you say we get into the nitty gritty of Enhancements?

    Crit Rate

Crit Rate or Critical Rate, is a way for your soldiers to inflict extra damage. Depending on the level of your Crit Rate you have a certain percentage of chance as well as damage that will be dealt to the enemy. All Crit Rates are the same for the four troop types. The maximum chance, or possibility of you actually inflicting Crit damage, being 15% and the Maximum damage being 150% of the normal damage your hero inflicts based on their current level, attack rating, equipment etc. When the damage is dealt it is great but don't count on it too often because even with 15% chance the odds that one of your hero will strike with Crit damage is unlikely in most cases. Again it isn't impossible and it does happen but not as often as you would like and most of the time it doesn't happen when you want it to the most, such as against an enemy player with more troops than you.
Something to keep in mind is that these Crit Rate enhancements are the same exact price as the regular Enhance Attributes.

    Crit/Enhancement Cost

Enhancing troops can be done via two methods, there is a third but it is kind of tricky. The main two methods, which really are the only two methods, is by using Copper Coins or Cast Iron. The third method is using Gold Coins. If you choose to use Gold Coins just know that the Gold Coins are converted into Cast Iron so ultimately you are using Cast Iron not Gold Coins. Sound complicated? If you thought that was ridiculous wait until you learn this little bit of info. If you do not have enough Cast Iron to perform the enhancement and you do not have the CC to perform the enhancement you will be asked to purchase the Cast Iron with your Gold Coins. When you purchase the Cast Iron with Gold Coins from the enhancement window be careful because if you have Cast Iron and you only intend to purchase enough to perform the upgrade it cannot be done. For some reason when you are asked to purchase the remaining Cast Iron it instead purchases the entire amount. So if you were to perform the level 10 enhancement and you only had 30 Cast Iron but wanted to buy the remaining 6 with Gold Coins you will instead purchase the entire amount of 36 Cast Iron for 72 Gold Coins and the Cast Iron you already had will remain untouched. You have been warned folks. Below you will find a table with the required amount of Cast Iron and Copper Coins for each level upgrade.
