Hero chests are awarded after some tower battles. They cost 100 Gc to open and can contain any 3*-5* hero. This includes skilled heros.
This can be better or worse than the advanced tavern refresh which only costs 99 Gold coins and gives you a choice of 3 heroes to choose from.
THe biggest benefit that I have found to the hero chests is that the legion of the hero is randomly assigned whereas in the tavern each hero has a set legion.
I have only opened one chest so far but I got a 5* persian Ives which I am quite pleased with. What have you all got?
Information about the game Age of Warring Empire for android devices. There is a serious lack of information about this game online my goal is to change that. I would love to have feedback or even comments on what you would like me to look into next. I update blog at least once a week so please follow to keep up to date!

Tower 1-13 April 2014
This time around I added highlights for the easiest bosses. The bosses highlighted red are the ones that do not have any special attack powers. So these are the most effective levels to farm.

Blitz 160
As some of you know I have become leader of the Blitz alliance for the server 160. And I thought I would make a helpful guide for many of our new players. Invite code for server 160 5BO9981192.
- Do Daily Tasks! At first they will be almost impossible to accomplish but very soon you will be able to do them with ease.
- When doing the tower run the bosses. Meaning as soon as you find the bosses kill them. You will get the prestige and resources that a regular battle won't give you. If you are trying to gain levels 5.10 is the best level for this. x.10 on each level offer more prestige then the other levels. and Level 5.10 has a boss with no special attack skill.
- don't hesitate to do levels over that you have already done. If you get stuck on a boss go back a level or two and get the experience.
- Use all that stamina! Stamina replenishes with time, it doesn't accumulate past your allotted amount. so you are loosing stamina in you aren't using it!
- When doing the Arena attack right then left until you find someone you can beat. You will gain in the arena faster this way.
- Do the Athena event three times a day! this will get you copper coins as well as green equipment to give you an edge.
- Make sure to check on your Achievements at least once a day! there are several of the achievements that only count up to when you collect then start the counter over and that could mean big losses in Prestige for you!
- Check into Alliance Chat (ac) when you can see if anyone needs help.
- If you are being farmed by a player who you have no hope defending against dump all the resources you can into the alliance contribution. If you have copper coins above your protected limit (listed on your lords page) do the fast gem explore (bottom of gem page) to get rid of it. In this way the player will get bored of the effort and you didn't give them any resources but helped the alliance out a great deal as well as got some good gems.
- if this doesn't make a player back off look for an ally near by. Reinforcing helps very very little if at all. It costs 6k copper to reinforce 5% which isn't very much for the cost.
- Make sure you have your fortifications built. Don't leave gaps in your fortifications, evenly distribute them.
- Keep your extra heros on the wall with 1 catapult each. These troops will be immortal due to the resurrection effects of the wall. This way you will get at least 1 prestige per attack as well as do a little bit of damage at least.
- Training seems to be offering the best experience for the heros. So yes it is worth it!
- Enhancing heros if a bit more iffy, if you plan on rebirthing the hero at some point don't enhance it. I believe the enhancements vanish with the rebirth.
- Equipment is a crucial part of the game it greatly adds to your attack and defense. Don't forget to upgrade it often. Market prices are more then double what it costs to farm the resources in the tower.
- Resource tiles are a must! Your lords level determines how many wilds and strongholds you can have at any given time.
- Doing the Mission tasks is also a great way to gain prestige to help you level up.

Tower 1.1-7.10 Jan 2014
This is a bit different then the guide I had up before. This one focuses more on the Boss battles and less on the individual battles. Safe to assume that the number of troops in each individual battle will be slightly less then the boss battle. And generally the experience much less. I have also listed What happens to a base Dracula in each stage. There is some information missing but in general it can be extrapolated from the other information around it. So the information is listed as: sublevel-boss-number of boss troops-experience from boss battle-Number of chests I found on the level (varies)- How many spirit stones were in each chest- Prestige from boss battle-Resources gained from boss battle-Spirit stones gained from boss battle- Material gained from boss battle.
The material gained from the boss battle seems to vary based on how complete you finished the sublevel. In other words did you open every chest and fight every battle? or just kill the boss as soon as you found him. The more complete the sublevel the more materials you get. My numbers are based on a 100% completion rate. I am sure that they vary as well though so should be used as a rough guide line.
The number of troops, experience, resources and prestige gained per boss battle do not vary in any way. The number of Spirit stones found in each chest is also constant and appears to go up by 10 each sublevel.

The 2 Hero attack system
The two hero attack strategy is more defensive then the three hero attack strategy. It is all about minimizing troops loss. The basics are you have 2 offensive generals and 2 defensive generals. For the sake of continuity I will use the same descriptions as listed in the 3 hero system guide.
Grid is always laid out in attack order, the attacker(left) always gets to go first.
Grid is always laid out in attack order, the attacker(left) always gets to go first.
741 147
852 vs 258
963 369
X= empty space
1=Sacrificial troops (using 3 troops in the tower is as effective as using 1 just have to refresh troops less often)
O= Offensive General, will take No damage in the formation
D= Defensive general will take all the damage in the formation
G= Opposing General
I will cover the three most versatile formations I have using this system. But mostly its just paying attention and knowing how the system works.
L- Formation (kill enemy generals from bottom up)
1XX XGX
1XX Vs GGX
XOD XGX
In this example the G in position 6 will be killed first, then followed by 2,5,4, the troops in location 4 will most likely attack your D, Positions 2 and 4 will kill your sacrificial troops. Thus as long as your O and D can kill all opposing generals in one hit each you will only loose 2 troops per battle.
I have found the L-Formation to be the most versatile of my go to formations. It is weak against any opposing formation with three generals on the bottom row:
XXX
XGX
GGG
Z-Formation (kill enemy generals from top down)
XOD
11X
XXX
When the troops you are against need to be killed from the top down this is the best formation to use. This formation is more limited since the attack order is kill in front then work your way up. And this puts your main force at the top which is a higher risk.
"T"- Formation (when the top and bottom need to be killed first)
XXD
11X
XXO
There are several formations in the tower that this is useful for. This formation does however have the most limitations. One notable one is when against this formation:
GXX
XGG
GXX
When facing the above troop formation the T formation will be the least useful even though it looks like the best fit. There is a G in the 1 and 3 position, so once you kill the 1 then you will be hit by the 3.
Those are my three main formations, but I do use others depending on how the troops are situated. There are many things to consider:
- How can I position my troops to take the least damage
- Take out the general with the most troops first, second or third. Since the last general they have left is usually the only one who will hit your main force. You want that general to have as few troops as possible.
- Remember that Infantry does extra damage to Archers, Cavalry does more to Infantry, and Archers do more to Cavalry. So if all generals have the same number of troops you want to take out your D's weakness first to minimize damage.
- Pay attention to attack order, it is usually you go they go you go they go, however there are times when this is not the case. Where you will get several turns in a row or they will. This seems to be random.
- Can I kill my intended target in one hit? Or would I be better off attacking a target with fewer troops?
- Consider enhancing your troops
- Enhancements can be found in the barracks, even enhancing your troops to lv 1 greatly increases their effectiveness.
- There is a detailed list of how the enhancements effects each troop type in the enhancements section if you click on the troop type icon (example: click infantry guy picture).
- Make sure your equipment is all equipped and up to date.
- Check the tavern often for new recruits
- Try to get all Heros with the same legion 5% isn't much of a bonus but it is certainly better then 0%
- Pay attention to the Letter levels, try to get at least C level or higher one for each troop type. S is the best but harder to come by. A and B would be superb but C will do for the time being.
- If you find that you are loosing more and more troops each battle, try leaving the tower and coming back. There is a glitch where the level number changes but you do not get any benefits of being a higher level until you re-enter the tower.
- After Each tower run update your arena line up. Even if you cannot challenge again today it will help you keep your position so you do not fall further behind.

Tower-Forest Valley-Frozen Earth-Fiery Mountain
Forest valley is the easiest level in the tower as it is the first one. Forest valley is broken up into 10 sub-levels and each sub-level is broken up into individual battles. Each sub-level has it's own boss battle I will put up averages as well as the boss stats for each sub-level. If there is not a special move listed next to a boss it is because they do not have an attack bonus to worry about.
The experience that is listed is my averages using a 2 hero offensive method. Your experience per battle can be calculated by the method I have mentioned once previously, 1-99 enemy troops =1exp, 100-199 enemy troops =2 exp ect. This is the base exp to get the final exp you then have to add your permant troop losses (the ones that didn't regenerate) to that number. Example, you kill 234 enemy troops, but loose 2 troops, you would have 5 exp.
I am working on a guide to use the 2 Hero offensive system of attacking. There is already a wonderful guide listed for the 3 hero offensive system Here: Tower Strategy/ Combat Strategy.

Basic Tower Guide- Dec 2013
Some basic tips on getting through the Tower:
- Troops are numbered in their attack order 1-4 in this way you can figure out which of your troops will get hit. You always get to start first, so your "1" will attack in front of him, if their is nobody in front of him they will attack up then down but always the troops in the front. then their "1" will attack in front of them or above then below. If you have already killed their "1" then their "2" will attack. Then your "2" then theirs and so on. Paying attention to the attack order can save you a lot of troops in the long run.
- Use sacrificial troops. I am an advocate of the 2&2 method. I have 2 defensive heros and 2 attacking heros. My attacking heros I attempt to position where they will take no damage. If one has to take damage I use the one with the highest defense rating. My defensive troops consist of 2 heros each leading 3 archers. I use archers because they cost the least in materials. I use 3 troops because even if you loose all 3 in one battle you will still regenerate 2 of them thus you get 3 rounds without having to replenish your troops. In this way you can hopefully make it through each fight loosing only 2 troops.
- Defensive troops make an excellent way to quickly level new heros. After each battle all heros who participated each gain the same amount of experience. So it doesn't matter that they can only command 50 troops you only need them to command 3.
- There is a correlation with the amount of troops you loose and the experience you gain. I am working on the numbers currently but do not have enough data to say for certain. But I can say the more troops you loose the more experience you will gain. So if you are not worried about troop loss then equip your max on each hero and rack up that experience.
- [EDIT] The correlation seems to work like this:
- less then 100 troops fought gets you 1 EXP, 100-199 troops fought gets you 2 EXP, 200-299 troops fought gets you 3 EXP.
- Thats the basic formulation, now on top of those numbers you also get 1 additional EXP per permanent troops loss of yours. So the ones that are resurected do not count towards the EXP number.
- EXAMPLE: you kill 243 of their troops but loose 2 troops in the process you would have 5 EXP per hero.
- In a few weeks I will start posting the Average troops per battle per tower level and you can calculate the best level to suit your needs.

Tower Strategy / Combat Strategy
Last Updated: 10/3/13
Tower Strategy / Combat Strategy
Tower Strategy / Combat Strategy
Since the introduction of the magic tower / maze on 9/17/13 the tower level
formations remain relevant; you simply have to match the formations
you're attacking with the formations below. For each sphere you advance,
the formations will either start at formation 1 and go up, while other times, they will start at number 11 (depending on which sphere you choose on the main screen). Be careful when selecting your attack formation. As you advance through a stage, keep in mind that both paths represent the next formation. So if you reach a dead end and must return, the old formations will repeat. As soon as the sphere boss is found, the stage jumps to the final formation (which is the formation for either 10 or 20). This may occur well before you've completed all 10 formations for that stage, so be vigilant about that as well. To claim the boss
listed in the lower left of the main screen, you must clear the final sphere to advance to
the boss stage. One notable difference from the last tower, the final boss of each sphere will differ on some stages from before. No longer do the 4 original bosses repeat every 40 levels. What remains unchanged; you will fight a strong super-powered boss during each boss stage.
As before, the tower formations are to be viewed as if FACING THE OPPONENT. This guide utilizes a 3 hero system in which 3 heroes are strengthened while the remaining hero serves as a sacrifice each round. Take note, that despite the numerous ways to successfully navigate each stage with a dual hero system, this system advocates a three hero approach to maximize formation strength when mistakes occur and to better prepare you for actual combat against formations utilizing 4 enemy generals. Feel free to rotate your heroes throughout each role listed below to equalize the experience each hero gains. Do take note that although a 3 hero approach is highly effective during treasure hunts and wild occupations, it is slightly lacking in the arena. There, due to the more evenly matched strength environment, a 4 hero approach completed by replacing the "1" with your weakest and least armed hero is recommended. A dual "D" or triple "O" formation is acceptable in some situations depending on how strong your defense / offense is or how unbalanced / balanced your heroes are (though I won't cover this in this guide).

Damage characters:
- “LD” - Light damage. This is used for formations that will strike the “D” with relatively light damage.
- “LMD” - Light medium damage. This is used for formations that will ultimately strike the “D” with relatively light to medium damage.
- “HD” - Heavy damage. This is used for formations that will ultimately strike the “D” with relatively heavy damage.

WILD
Formations
By using the scouting ability (to identify the strongest and weakest generals) in conjunction with these formations you can attack any wild or stronghold while receiving the least amount of damage possible. After all, you decide which NPC hero attacks your "D" therefore it is recommended that you choose the weakest NPC hero a.k.a. "LG" when making this decision. Keep in mind, in some cases your "D" may be positioned to face the strongest enemy general a.k.a "HG". In such cases either make sure your "D" is strong enough to one hit kill the enemy "HG", otherwise simply alter the formation to make the "O" face the "HG" while the "D" still takes the hit from the "LG". This issue can occur in the formation to be attacked by the hero in slot three, so be careful when using this formation. The easiest way to resolve this issue is to switch the "D" with the "O" at the top and to move the "O" to the slot behind the other "O". This forms a backwards L-formation in which the opposing slots 2 and 4 are taken out first, your "1" takes the shot from the opposing general in slot 1 and the "D" takes the hit from the "LG" in the 3rd slot while at the top. When doing this, make sure the "D" can one hit kill the general in slot 2 or try to avoid fighting this battle altogether; if you proceed, you will possibly face heavy losses. I've added this special formation below. Also try to attack enemy formations / wilds that are unbalanced, with a very distinct "HG" and "LG," to minimize the damage taken from the "LG." Attacking enemy formations with 4 balanced heroes can be accomplished with any of the formations below but will result in equivalent damage. Lastly, always make sure your "O" can one hit kill the strong "HG."
Note: When I refer to enemy heroes in slots 1-4, I'm not referencing the attack slot diagram used for the tower section listed at the top of this guide but rather I'm referring to the automatic positions of NPCs used in treasure hunts or on wilds listed below. This diagram becomes especially relevant when utilizing information gained from scouting or treasure hunting since the chronological order in which the heroes are listed in the scouting report and on the treasure ledgers matches the slot numbers listed below. So a hero shown first in the report will be in the same slot as "slot 1" listed below when you attack and so forth. Keep in mind that when scouting players, their formations cannot be obtained so a preemptive attack with 6 soldiers to see their formation may be helpful if the player doesn't have forts. Otherwise, attacking with just enough soldiers to get through the forts is a good way to see their formation before sending your main force.

Special Formations / 1-2-3 Hero Formations
The dragon is a daily event which can offer a quick way to earn gold coins (by attacking the dragon first or killing the dragon) and other various rewards ranging from 25 prestige alongside ~600cc to more exotic rewards such as dozens of cast iron, hero EXP cards or small troop replenishment cards. For most players, simply sending a single hero with a single troop is the most effecient way to benefit from the event due to the way in which rewards are granted. However for those who seek to score in the top 3 or to kill the dragon to earn the best rewards, a more sophisticated approach is necessary. To maximize the amount of damage the dragon receives with the least amount of troop loss, it is best to stall the dragon with "1s" while delivering maximum damage from a single high powered "O" until the dragon ultimately kills the "O." This formation is listed below. This same formation can be utilized to attack players, treasures with a single overpowered hero or to simply maximize your chances of killing a single hero formation without taking high losses. If the dragon is nearing death and you believe you may be able to kill it with one more attack, but you're uncertain if the damage you're able to deal in one round is significant enough to kill it, feel free to replace some of the "1s" with more "Os" starting from the back. Keep in mind, that you'll suffer increasing losses if the dragon reaches the additional "O" generals before it is killed.
- Make sure that the "Os" match the dragon's legion to take advantage of the attack bonus.
- Match up the "1s" with the "O's" legion to add an additional 5% attack (due to the shared animosity skill bonus).

When fighting players or attacking bandits / treasures you will occasionally encounter formations with 2 heroes. For these formations, it is best to utilize a single "O" with multiple "1s" depending on how strong these heroes are. If your "O" is not strong enough to one hit kill the enemy general in slot one or two, it is recommended to initially attack the weaker opponent and then to add more "1s" in the corresponding slots from 4-9 that are in front of the general (I'll often refer to as a "strong general") that cannot be killed in a single strike. If both heroes are strong generals, a judgement call will need to be made as to which hero should be attacked first, how many "1s" to attack with and whether this enemy formation should be attacked at all. In this case, feel free to place the "O" in slot 3 and to fill slots 4-9 with 1s depending on the strength of each enemy general. The first formation below is based on a 2 general formation in which both enemy heroes can be one hit killed by the "O". The second formation is the best formation against strong enemy generals in both slots. Essentially the "O" still attacks first and is protected for at least 2 rounds without any losses while the enemy generals fight through all the "1s."

When encountering NPC formations with 3 heroes (which are in slots 1, 2 and 3) it's best to utilize dual "Os". The formation below is based on a 3 hero formation in which all three heroes can be one hit killed by the "Os".

If one of the heroes in the enemy 3 general formation (In slots 1, 2 and 3) is too strong to be killed in one shot, place the "Os" in slots 3 and 6 and place 1s in front of both rows of heroes. Keep in mind that after the initial round, there will be little protection for your hero in slot 3, so plan to take some losses if the first attack of the second round doesn't finish the job. Avoid using this formation if the strong enemy general is in slot 1 or 3 as you will immediately take damage from the enemy general in slot 3 and will take further damage the next round from the general in slot 2. In such cases utilize the next formation.

When encountering NPC formations with 3
heroes (which are in slots 1, 2 and 3) where the strong general is in slot 1 or slot 3 utilize the formation below. It will allow you to kill the general in slot 2 and lay a heavy blow to the general in slot 1 (hopefully killing that general) during the first round without taking losses. Nonetheless, if a strong general is in slot 1, even if you're able to kill the strong general in round 2, you will still take damage from the general in slot 3 before your last attack is levied. A judgement call will be needed to determine if attacking this formation is reasonable despite the imminent losses. If the strong general is in slot 3, as long as the first attack of the second round is sufficient to kill the general in slot 3 (since the general in slot 1 should've been eliminated in round 1), you will not take any losses. If both enemy generals in slots 1 and 3 still remain after round 1 and the general in slot 3 is a strong hero (qualifying both as strong generals), things can turn ugly rather quickly...there will be blood ;-)
