Age of Empire- Troops

There are 4 types of troops Infantry, Calvary, Archer and Catapult.

Everyone has there own preference on what troops they make and use. Also each hero is better with some troops over other troops. Going into the heros menu (little helmet on menu bar) will allow you to see what troops are most beneficial to each Hero.

once in the hero menu you can see the troop icons on the bottom each icon has a letter on it these letters denote the skill the hero has at direction these troops.
S: 20% more attack
A: 15% more attack
B: 10% more attack
C: 5% more attack
D: no change
E: -5% attack

Your troops eat, so once you start building your army you will start producing less food. Each soldier eats 1 food each hour.

  1. So I've tried merging six, 5-star all B's heroes together and the result was a 5-star hero with A attribute on catapults and cavalry. My question is, how do you get an S type general?. Do I need to merge 6 A type heroes or what?, thank you in advance.

    1. As far as I know it is random. I have done the same as you and received three a's and an s on the Hero. My current theory is that it has something to do with what troops they are used to commanding before synthase. Or it really could just be simple and that it is random.

    2. Thank you for the quick reply!. I'd like to point out that all heroes I've ever merged were at level 1, and never used in combat. Just recently merged another bunch of 5* gens for the third time ever and got the same result (two A's, and the rest all C or D). You may be right about this just being random, but then again I must have some real bad luck as to not get a single S of all my 3 failed attempts.

    3. Thank you for post, I was about to have 6 5* generals to generate a better one and now I see that there is no big chance to have it.
And what about skilled general? there is no way to synthesize it?

    4. generally merging 6 5* heros will always result in a better hero just not necessarily with the letter rating, you will always have an improved growth rate however.

  2. First, a preliminary damage calculation question: whatever the formula for attack, is conventional wisdom that damage = (your total attack) - (opponent's total defense), or something like that?

Then my main question specifically related to the topic of troops: a hero's letter grade (S-E)... what exactly does it affect?

For example, let's take a hypothetical hero:
He is level 100. His attack growth is 30. So his attack from growth is 3000.
His attack from hero enhancements is 2000.
He has a bow with a gem that has a total attack of 10000.
That bow also has an archers attack bonus of 1500.
    (Subtotal = 16500)
He has 5000 archers with him, times 13 attack each archer = 65000.
Archers enhancement researched to lvl 8 which is attack 1300.

He has an "S" in archers which means +20% attack.

Is it +20% to ALL those attack numbers? Or just +20% to his 3000 attack from growth? Or to his 5000 attack from growth + enhancement? Or the 16500 that is the hero’s total attack with accoutrements? Or, even though the grade is attached to the hero, does the +20% apply to the 65000 attack from 5000 archers? Or the 65000 + 1300? Basically, is the troop type grade a BIG factor, or a SMALL one?

Also, looking at that list of numbers, it seems pretty clear that the 5000*13 + 1300 = 66300 archers' number is NOT straight-up added to the 16500 hero's number. Because once a hero's troops have been knocked down from 5000 to 50, he still does almost as much damage as when he had all his troops. So the hero's # is clearly weighed much more heavily than the troops' #. Which, again, means that whether the +20% is applied to hero attack or troop attack or both means a lot.

But anyway, I ask because this: if I have two heroes to choose from for my fourth slot. And Hero 1 has great attack but a "C" in the troop type. Hero 2 has less attack but an "A" in that troop. How do I determine which hero is better in that slot? Anyone who has any insight or hypotheses to share, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. :)

    1. I have tried several different times to record the data necesary to finding out the answers to your questions. But there are too many unknown variables. are the opponants troops enhanced? what are their heros numbers? are they using buffs? there is only a very tedious way to know for sure and that is spending countless ours attacking your alts. And Im really not that motivated. if you wanted to run the numbers I would be more then happy to let you publish your findings here.
